Ready to wet a line in some of the best inshore waters Texas has to offer? Grab your hat and sunscreen, because we're heading out for five action-packed hours on Aransas Pass. This half-day trip is perfect for anglers of all skill levels looking to tangle with hard-fighting redfish, speckled trout, and maybe even a doormat flounder. With light tackle in hand and an experienced local guide at the helm, you'll drift across skinny flats and fish-filled bays in search of your next trophy catch. The coastal scenery ain't half bad either!
We'll meet up bright and early at the Aransas Pass marina, where your guide will have the boat prepped and ready to roll. After a quick safety rundown, we'll zip out to the day's hot spots. Depending on the tides and conditions, we might start by drifting grass flats for hungry reds or working a topwater along a shallow reef for aggressive trout. Your guide knows these waters like the back of their hand, so get ready to hit multiple fishing holes throughout the morning. We provide all the gear you'll need, from rods and reels to lures and live bait. Just bring your Texas fishing license, some snacks, and a readiness to bend some rods!
On this trip, we'll primarily use light tackle setups perfect for inshore fishing. You might find yourself tossing soft plastics on a jighead, working a popping cork rig, or even sight-casting to tailing redfish in skinny water. Don't worry if you're new to these techniques – your guide will walk you through the basics and offer pointers throughout the day. We'll adapt our approach based on what the fish are biting, switching between artificial lures and live bait as needed. The key is staying versatile and being ready when that rod tip suddenly dips. Half the fun is in the fight, so hold on tight when a big red decides to make a run for it!

"Went fishing with Captain Marvin on a location trip and was highly impressed and got way more than what I payed for. The Wade it Out experience will give you full insight and wading experience whether you're a novice or an expert. Captain Marvin was really knowledgeable about Matagorda Bay and put everybody on fish and helped to make me feel comfortable while out on the water. I caught my PB trout at the end of the day, and it was worth all the searching and grinding. Redfish: These copper-colored beauties are the crown jewels of Texas inshore fishing. Known for their powerful runs and distinctive black spot near the tail, redfish (also called red drum) can range from "rat reds" under 20 inches to bull reds over 40 inches long. We typically target slot-sized reds in the 20-28 inch range, which put up an amazing fight on light tackle. Redfish love to cruise the flats and hang around structure, often revealing their location with a tell-tale tail sticking out of the water as they root for crabs. Fall is prime time for reds in Aransas Pass, but we catch them year-round.
Speckled Trout: Don't let the name fool you – these "specks" are anything but small fry. Speckled sea trout are one of the most popular inshore gamefish in Texas, known for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic leaps. They average 2-3 pounds but can grow up to 8 pounds or more. Trout love to ambush bait around grass beds, oyster reefs, and channel edges. The excitement of working a topwater lure and having a big trout explode on it is hard to beat. Spring and fall are peak seasons, but summer can produce some monster trout for those willing to fish early or late in the day.
Southern Flounder: While not as common as reds or trout, landing a big "doormat" flounder is always a treat. These flatfish are masters of camouflage, blending in perfectly with sandy or muddy bottoms. Flounder fishing requires a bit more finesse, slowly working soft plastics or live bait along drop-offs and structure. The bite is often subtle, but when you set the hook, be ready for a strong fight. Fall is the prime time to target flounder as they migrate to the Gulf to spawn. A 2-3 pound flounder is considered a good catch, but we occasionally see monsters pushing 5 pounds or more.
There's something special about fishing the waters around Aransas Pass. Maybe it's the way the sun paints the sky as it rises over the bay, or the heart-pounding thrill when a big red slams your lure. Perhaps it's the satisfaction of learning new techniques from a seasoned guide, or the simple pleasure of being out on the water with good company. Whatever draws you in, one thing's for sure – once you've experienced the world-class inshore fishing here, you'll be itching to come back for more.
Our half-day trips are perfect for both seasoned anglers looking to dial in their technique and newcomers wanting to get their feet wet in the sport. You'll have plenty of time to work different spots and methods, increasing your chances of landing that personal best catch. And let's be honest, there's nothing quite like the bragging rights that come with a cooler full of fresh fish at the end of the day (just make sure to follow all local regulations on what you can keep).
One of the best parts of fishing with a local guide is tapping into years of hard-earned knowledge. Our captains don't just know where the fish are biting – they understand the seasonal patterns, how tides and weather affect the bite, and all the little tricks that can turn a slow day into a memorable one. They're passionate about sharing their love for these waters and helping you become a better angler in the process.
Whether you're a die-hard fisherman looking to scratch that angling itch or a family wanting to create some lasting memories on the water, our Half Day Guided Fishing Trip in Aransas Pass is just the ticket. Redfish are the pride of our flats here in Aransas Pass. These copper-colored bruisers love shallow water, often tailing in just a foot or two. Most run 20 to 30 inches, but the big bulls can push 40 pounds. Look for them around oyster reefs, grass beds, and marsh edges. They'll eat just about anything, but love crabs and shrimp. Fall is prime time when they school up to spawn. Reds are famous for their powerful runs – hook one and hang on! They're also great eating, with a sweet, firm flesh. To catch 'em, try sight-fishing with light tackle. Cruise the flats on a calm morning and watch for their tails breaking the surface. Then, make a quiet cast ahead of them with a gold spoon or soft plastic. One trick: if you see a red following your lure, speed up your retrieve. That often triggers a strike from these aggressive feeders.

Around these parts, we call 'em speckled trout. They're a blast to catch and tasty on the table too. You'll find these silver beauties in the grass flats and shallow waters, especially at night. Most run 14 to 24 inches, but the big ones can top 5 pounds. They love to chase shrimp and small fish, so we use artificial lures that mimic their prey. Best time to target them is spring and fall when the water's not too hot. Sea trout put up a good fight on light tackle, and their delicate white meat is hard to beat. Here's a local tip: try drifting with a popping cork rig when the bite is slow. The noise draws them in curious. Just remember, these fish have soft mouths, so set the hook easy and keep steady pressure. Nothing beats the thrill of a speck breaking the surface to nail your topwater lure at dawn.

Southern flounder are the masters of camouflage in our bays. These flat fish blend right into the bottom, waiting to ambush prey. Most are 15 to 18 inches, but the big doormats can hit 30 inches and 5 pounds plus. Look for them around drop-offs, channel edges, and sandy flats. They love to hang out where currents sweep bait past. Fall is flounder time here, when they migrate to the Gulf to spawn. That's when we catch the biggest ones. Flounder fishing takes patience, but it's worth it. They're prized for their delicate, white fillets. To target them, try drifting or slow-trolling with live bait or soft plastics. Work your lure right on the bottom with short hops. Here's a local secret: when you feel that telltale "thump," wait a few seconds before setting the hook. Flounder often grab the tail of the bait first, then turn it to swallow. Give 'em time, and you'll hook more fish.
