Get ready to hook into some serious action on this private 5-hour fishing adventure in Aransas Pass, Texas. We'll be targeting the area's top gamefish like redfish, speckled trout, and flounder across the bays and flats. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just getting your feet wet, this trip offers the perfect mix of excitement and laid-back coastal vibes. With top-notch gear and an expert local guide at the helm, you'll have everything you need to land that trophy catch you've been dreaming about.
We'll kick things off bright and early, meeting at the dock as the sun starts peeking over the horizon. After a quick safety rundown and gear check, we'll fire up the engine and head out to where the fish are biting. The beauty of Aransas Pass fishing is the variety - one minute we might be drifting grass flats for trout, the next we could be sight-casting to tailing reds in skinny water. Your guide knows these waters like the back of their hand, so we'll hit all the local honey holes and adjust tactics based on conditions. Light tackle is the name of the game here, so be ready for some serious rod-bending action when a big red decides to take your bait for a run. Between casts, soak in those stunning coastal views and keep an eye out for dolphins, ospreys, and other local wildlife.
On this trip, we'll be using a mix of live bait and artificial lures to target the fish. For trout, we might throw soft plastics or topwater plugs, working them with a twitch-pause retrieve that drives specks wild. When we're after reds, we'll often use popping corks with live shrimp - that "pop" sound mimics bait fish and can trigger some explosive strikes. If the flounder are around, we'll slow things down with a bottom-bouncing jig. Your guide will walk you through each technique, giving you pro tips to maximize your chances of landing the big one. We provide all the gear you need, from rods and reels to terminal tackle, but feel free to bring your lucky lure if you've got one. Just remember to pack some sunscreen, snacks, and a camera to document your catch!

"Went fishing with Captain Marvin on a location trip and was highly impressed and got way more than what I payed for. The Wade it Out experience will give you full insight and wading experience whether you're a novice or an expert. Captain Marvin was really knowledgeable about Matagorda Bay and put everybody on fish and helped to make me feel comfortable while out on the water. I caught my PB trout at the end of the day, and it was worth all the searching and grinding. "Had a great two days out on the water with Captain Marvin. Caught so many fish I have bruises from setting the hook. This dude know what he's doing and is great at teaching his trade. Great time fishing and laughing!" - Ryon
Speckled Trout: These silver beauties are a staple of Texas inshore fishing, and for good reason. Known for their spotted patterns and delicious meat, specks put up a great fight on light tackle. They're often found around grass flats, channel edges, and oyster reefs. Spring and fall are prime time for big trout, but we catch them year-round in Aransas Pass. There's nothing quite like the excitement of a trout blowing up on a topwater lure at dawn.
Redfish: The bulldogs of the flats, redfish are prized for their powerful runs and copper-colored scales. They can often be spotted tailing in shallow water, presenting heart-pounding sight-fishing opportunities. Reds love to hang around structure like marsh edges, docks, and oyster bars. Fall is fantastic for bull reds, but slot-sized fish are available all year. Hooking into a big red in skinny water is an experience you won't soon forget.
Southern Flounder: These flatfish might not look like much, but they're sneaky fighters and excellent table fare. Flounder like to ambush their prey, so we'll target them around drop-offs, channels, and structure. They're masters of camouflage, blending in perfectly with the sandy bottom. Fall is the best time for flounder as they migrate to the Gulf, but we can find them most of the year. The satisfaction of outsmarting a flounder and feeling that tell-tale thump on your line is hard to beat.
There's something special about fishing the waters around Aransas Pass that keeps folks coming back year after year. Maybe it's the thrill of sight-casting to a tailing redfish in gin-clear water, or the heart-stopping excitement of a big trout smashing a topwater plug at dawn. Perhaps it's the laid-back coastal vibe, where time seems to slow down and your only worry is whether to use live bait or artificials.
But I'll tell you what really sets this place apart - it's the variety. One minute you might be drifting a deep channel for monster trout, the next you could be poling across a shallow flat looking for cruising reds. And don't even get me started on the seasonal runs of bull reds and big flounder. Every trip is different, and that's what keeps the fishing here fresh and exciting.
As your guide, I've spent countless hours on these waters, learning the patterns of the fish and the secrets of the tides. I'll put you on the fish, sure, but more than that, I'll share the local knowledge that'll help you become a better angler. Redfish are one of our most popular inshore species, and for good reason. These copper-colored bruisers typically run 20-30 inches, but trophy "bull reds" over 40 inches aren't uncommon. You'll find them tailing in shallow flats, especially around oyster bars and grass beds. They love to chase bait in only a foot or two of water. Spring and fall are peak seasons as the water temperatures are ideal. Anglers love targeting reds for their aggressive strikes and powerful fights. They'll readily take artificial lures, but live bait like mullet or crab is deadly. Here's a local tip: on calm days, look for their tails breaking the surface as they root for crabs in the shallows. Ease up quietly and make a cast just beyond them - the explosion when they hit a topwater lure is unforgettable.
Southern flounder are masters of camouflage, blending into sandy or muddy bottoms in shallow coastal waters. These flat fish typically grow 15-18 inches long and weigh around 5 pounds. You'll find them in bays, estuaries, and nearshore areas, especially near structure. Fall is prime time as they move to spawn. Folks love targeting flounder for their unique appearance and excellent table fare. They're ambush predators, so fishing slowly along the bottom with live bait or soft plastics is key. A local trick: when you feel a bite, don't set the hook right away. Give the flounder time to grab the bait and turn it in its mouth. Once you feel weight, then set it firm. It takes some patience, but you'll hook way more fish that way. Landing a big doormat flounder is always a highlight of any trip.
Sea trout, or speckled trout as we call 'em, are a staple of inshore fishing here. Most run 14-20 inches and 1-3 pounds, but gator trout over 5 pounds aren't unheard of. You'll find them around grass flats, oyster bars, and deeper channels, especially near moving water. They're most active at dawn and dusk. Anglers love specks for their aggressive strikes and delicate flavor on the table. They'll hit just about any lure, but live shrimp under a popping cork is hard to beat. Fall and spring are prime seasons when the water temps are right. Here's a tip: if you find a school, work the area thoroughly. Trout often hang in big groups, so where there's one, there's usually more. Just vary your retrieve speed until you dial in what they want that day.
